The San Francisco Fire Department Historical Society (SFFDHS) is a non-profit Federal tax exempt, 501(c) (3) California Corporation.  Our State of California identification number is: 75-3188674.  By resolution of the Fire Commission on October 13, 2005, the SFFD Historical Society was named as the sponsor of the SFFD Museum.

The primary mission of the SFFDHS is to preserve the heritage and to record the history of the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) for the benefit of the citizens of San Francisco.  This mission will include the conservation and preservation of the collection, display of documents, graphic items, fire memorabilia, apparatus, appliances and other items at the SFFD Museum.  The SFFDHS represents the SFFD at community events and firefighter musters, in parades, displays and competitions with the apparatus of the collection.  The award winning SFFDHS muster team, by preserving the physical techniques of firefighting used in by gone days, makes the SFFD Museum a museum of living history.

Membership:

SFFDHS does not offer membership at this time, but relies on generous contributions from the community. We believe it is a better use of your donated funds to directly support our historical conservation and memorial efforts rather than to support the costs associated with maintaining membership. Regular website updates save trees and eliminate the need to budget for increasing postal charges and publishing costs. Staffed by dedicated volunteers,  SFFDHS maintains the museum and its website as an educational and historic resource for the general public.

The SFFD Historical Society was the sponsor of the
1906 EXPO, the 100th Anniversary celebration of The Great Earthquake & Fire.
The three day 1906 Expo was the largest of the 100th anniversary events in the Bay Area.
Held at Pier 48, the Expo was attended by over 75,000 people.

For more information about this and other events we've organized or participated in, check out our Events Page.
