Gene Krupa in action

One of the greatest jazz drummers of all time, Gene Krupa was arrested at the Golden Gate Theater on January l9, l943, due to an allegation that he had used a 20 year old "roadie" to transport a small amount of marijuana. Krupa was arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a misdemeanor.

Krupa's attorney, Jake Ehrlich, pled Krupa to the misdemeanor with a recommendation from the D.A. that a $500 fine be administered. To everyone's surprise, the judge ordered the $500 fine and 90 days in the county jail. Krupa did the time.
